ANotice to Airmen (NOTAM) is a notice issued by the relevant national aviation authority to provide pilots and other relevant parties with information about potential hazards or changes to the status of a specific airspace, runway, or navigation aid. NOTAMs are used to alert pilots to obstacles, temporary or permanent changes to airspace or air traffic control procedures, and other information that could affect the safe operation of aircraft. They are typically issued for short-term changes or emergencies, and are intended to be used in conjunction with other information sources, such as aeronautical charts and flight guides.
NOTAMs are issued by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) for a variety of reasons, including:

Temporary changes to airspace, such as the establishment of a temporary flight restriction (TFR) for an event such as a VIP movement or a natural disaster.

Temporary or permanent changes to the status of navigation aids, such as the closure of a runway for maintenance or the installation of a new instrument landing system (ILS)

Obstacles that are not marked on aeronautical charts, such as cranes or communications towers

Information about special use airspace, such as military training areas or airspace designated for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) operations

Weather conditions that may affect flight operations, such as thunderstorms, low visibility, or icing.
When a NOTAM is issued by the FAA, it is given a unique number and is distributed to pilots and other relevant parties through various channels, including by radio broadcast, through flight information publications, and on specialized websites that aggregate NOTAMs from around the world. Pilots are responsible for reviewing NOTAMs and taking them into account when planning their flights and filing flight plans.
NOTAMs are essential for ensuring the safe operation of aircraft and is a critical tool used by air traffic controllers and pilots to maintain situational awareness and plan for contingencies.
